Why Clary Homes

Thirty years of San Diego fire pits, and placement still beats size.

A fire feature is where the evening ends up. So the first question isn't what it looks like, it's where people will sit, which way the wind blows, and how far it is from the kitchen and the house. Get that right and a modest fire pit gets used every week. Get it wrong and a big one gets used twice.

Every project starts with a free visit to your home. We look at the seating, the wind, the clearances from the house and the fence, and how you'll run the gas, and only then draw it. If you'd like the seating area or the pavers around it considered while we're there, just say. If it's the fire feature only, that's what we'll build.

  1. 01

Pit, table or fireplace, chosen for how you'll use it

A fire pit for sitting around in a circle, a fire table for drinks and conversation, an outdoor fireplace for a wall, a view and a bit of wind protection. We'll tell you which one suits the spot, not which one is easiest to build.

  2. 02

See it in 3D before it's built

Size, height, finish, seating and the gap between the flame and the people, all shown in a 3D design before anything is ordered. The design is $500, credited back in full when you sign.

  3. 03

Just the fire, or a bit more. Your call

Plenty of people come to us for a fire pit on an existing patio and nothing else, and we build exactly that. If you'd like seating, pavers or lighting around it looked at at the same time, mention it at the consultation and we'll fold it into the same plan. No pressure either way.

"You don't plan a fire pit. You plan where the chairs go."

Good to know

Questions people ask before they call.

Straight answers on price, timing and what's included. Anything else, the consultation is free and there's no obligation.

01How much does a fire pit or fireplace cost in San Diego?

It depends on the type, the size, the finish and how the gas is run, so fire features are quoted after a site visit. You can get a rough estimate over the phone. Terms and conditions apply.

02Gas or wood?

Gas lights in seconds, has no smoke and no ash, and is what most San Diego homeowners choose. Wood gives you the crackle but needs clearance, cleaning and, in many areas, isn't allowed on burn-restriction days. We'll go through what your property and your city allow at the consultation.

03Do you run the gas line?

Yes. A natural gas line from the house, or a concealed propane setup where there's no gas on site, is planned and priced as part of the job so nothing comes up later.

04How far does it need to be from the house?

It depends on the type and on local code. We check the clearances for your property before anything is drawn, so the fire feature sits where it's both comfortable and allowed.

05Can it go on my existing patio?

Usually, yes. We check the surface and what's under it so the feature sits level and any gas line can be run to it cleanly. If something needs changing first, we'll tell you before we start.

06How long does it take?

Once materials are on site, most fire pits and tables are built in days, not weeks. Fireplaces take longer. The exact schedule depends on the size, the gas run and access to the yard. You get a written schedule before work begins.

07Can I finance it?

Yes. Financing is offered on every package, so the work can go in this season rather than in a few years.

08Which areas do you cover?

All of San Diego County and some parts of Riverside County. It's always best to confirm your area first so we can tell you straight away whether we can take the project on.
