Why Clary Homes

Thirty years of San Diego patios, and the base is still the part we care most about.

A patio only looks good for as long as the ground under it behaves. Most of the work you'll never see: excavation, compacted base, edge restraint, drainage that takes the water somewhere sensible. That's where the time goes, and it's why the surface stays flat.

Every project starts with a free visit to your home. We look at the ground, the slopes and where water runs, talk about how you'll use the space, and only then price it. If you'd like anything else considered while we're there, just say. If it's the patio only, that's what we'll build.

  1. 01

Pavers or concrete, chosen for the job

Pavers can be lifted and relaid if anything ever needs fixing underneath, and they handle San Diego's dry soils well. Concrete is the leaner option for large driveways and plain patios. We'll tell you which suits your yard, not which is easier for us.

  2. 02

See it in 3D before it's laid

Pattern, colour, border and where the patio meets the lawn, all shown in a 3D design before a single paver goes down. The design is $500, credited back in full when you sign.

  3. 03

Just the patio, or a bit more. Your call

Plenty of people come to us for a driveway or a patio and nothing else, and we build exactly that. If you'd like lighting, a pergola or turf looked at at the same time, mention it at the consultation and we'll fold it into the same plan. No pressure either way.

"You'll walk on it every day for twenty years. Build the part you can't see properly."

Good to know

Questions people ask before they call.

Straight answers on price, timing and what's included. Anything else, the consultation is free and there's no obligation.

01How much does a paver patio or driveway cost in San Diego?

It depends on the area, the ground and the paver you choose, so paving on its own is quoted after a site visit. You can get a rough estimate over the phone..

02Pavers or concrete, which should I choose?

Pavers cost more up front but can be lifted and relaid if a section ever settles or a pipe needs reaching. Concrete is cheaper per square foot and suits large, plain areas like driveways. We'll recommend one for your yard at the consultation.

03How long does it take?

A typical patio or driveway is measured in days, not months, once we start. The exact schedule depends on the area, access to the yard and whether old concrete has to come out first. You get a written schedule before work begins.

04Can you remove my existing concrete first?

Yes. Breaking out and hauling away the old slab is part of the job and is included in the quote, so there's nothing to arrange separately.

05Will the patio drain properly?

Drainage is planned before anything is laid. We grade the base so water runs away from the house and, where the yard needs it, add drains so nothing pools on the surface or against the foundation.

06Can I finance it?

Yes. Financing is offered on every package, so the work can go in this season rather than in a few years.

07Do I have to take the whole package?

No. The Fab Five is there for people who want the patio and a few things to enjoy on it. If you only want paving, we quote that on its own after the site visit.

08Which areas do you cover?

All of San Diego County and some parts of Riverside County. It's always best to confirm your area first so we can tell you straight away whether we can take the project on.
